Brosway has unveiled a partnership with Miami International University of Art & Design (MIU) and announced a brand-inspired contest for junior and senior students. Miami International University of Art & Design offers degree programs in Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Visual & Entertainment Arts, Photography, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Visual Effects & Motion Graphics, Computer Animation, and Film & Digital Production. And also, Master of Fine Arts degree programs in Interior Design, Computer Animation, Film, Graphic Design and Visual Arts.
The MIU students participating in the contest were challenged to design a set of three jewelry pieces that include a ring, necklace, bracelet, earrings or ankle bracelet. The winning collection by student, Judith Cabrera, was announced yesterday at the University’s Annual Student Fashion Show, Style 2018. Judith Cabrera’s winning collection will be produced and sold in Brosway’s flagship store in Miami and on the brand’s website.
“This was an incredible experience for our students to learn first-hand what it means to design for a major European retailer,” said Charlene Parsons, academic director of fashion programs at MIU. “It’s not only about the design and creativity of a particular field of study like fashion; the students need to think about the manufacturing process and create a collection that can be mass produced.”
Students’ work was judged on overall design, originality, creativity, production viability and the usage of Brosway design codes. The judging panel was comprised of executive members from both the brand and the school.
The winning student, Judith Cabrera, received a $1,500 tuition scholarship in addition to having her designs produced and sold at the brand’s store within Miami International Mall and on Brosway’s website. The brand also announced Jana Davis as runner up and Evelyn Ponce for third place. Runner up receives a $1,000 tuition scholarship and third place receives a $500 tuition scholarship.
“A truly beautiful and relevant piece of jewelry combines the vision, research and artistic creativity of the jewelry designer with the skill and execution of the fabricating jeweler,” said Beatrice Beleggia, Brosway Communications Manager. “Our goal is to help students realize both the creative and business practices behind a global jewelry brand.”
